LISA MAUNEY
Music Director Emeritus
Graduating from Mars Hill College with a Bachelor of
Music Education degree with emphasis in piano and
trumpet, I was employed by Yancey County School
System to begin a band program. When Mountain
Heritage High School opened in 1976, I was an
itinerant teacher with band classes at Cane River
Middle School, East Yancey Middle School and
Mountain Heritage High School, which involved
marching band and pep band. In 1983, I became full
time director at both middle schools until retiring
in 2007.
At various times throughout my career, I served as
an audition judge and guest clinician. In 1997, I
received my National Board Certification in Music
Education. During my teaching career, I became
involved with the Toe River Chamber Ensemble, first
as a trumpet player and later as conductor, as which
I am presently serving. Credentialed by the
Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship
as a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor and
Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning, I
have spent over thirty years involved with the
Appalachian Therapeutic Riding Center. My husband
and I have three children and three grandchildren
and reside in Yancey County.
